Multiple shootings reported
Two Crossett men were injured in separate non-fatal shootings last week, according to reports from Ashley County sheriff's office. James Williams Lee, 39, was shot in the lower hip area and Jacob Smith, 27, was shot in the back.

No major losses in Alrez fire
The outdoor segment of the dust filtration system at Alrez awaits new rupture panels following a May 13 discharge and flash fire that caused the safety panels to deploy. The approximate 3 feet by 3 feet sheet metal covered panels go on openings at the front, side, and top. They are designed to open should the pressurized system develop too much pressure. The rupture panels rupturing is what you would want to happen in this situation, reported plant manager Keith Long.

Relay event raises funds
Ashley County’s annual Relay for Life event went “really well and was a lot of fun,” according to the American Cancer Society’s community event coordinator Kelli White who said the May 17 “Bank Night” total of funds raised was $38,000. ACS’s overall goal, including May 25 fundraisers and those continuing through the season’s end in August, is $70,000 this year.
