The Crossett Middle School baseball team finished their season last week with only one loss.

On Thursday, the CMS Eagles wrapped up their year with a 10-1 win over the Smackover Buckaroos at home.

The first inning was a no score, but in the top of the second, Chase Golden hit a double to left field that eventually got him across the plate. Caleb Wilcox hit a sacrifice fly to bring Golden in for the first score of the game.

In the bottom of the third, Smackover tied the score when a walked batter was knocked home.

The CMS Eagles didn’t let the score stay tied for long. In the top of the fourth, they cushioned the score.

Stetson Bishop started them off with a single and Cooper Williams walked. Both were knocked in on a single by Golden. Lane Ferguson followed with a single to knock Golden in and Ferguson was knocked in by Brady Rickman.

The CMS Eagles hit the field for the bottom of the fourth leading 5-1.

The defense held the Buckaroos and In the top of the fifth the little Eagles sealed their win.

Jaylan Brown started off with a hit and reached first on an error by the first baseman. Bishop followed with a single and Williams walked again. Both Brown and Bishop were knocked in by Golden, and Williams was moved around to third.

Brady Holt stepped up to knock Williams in and move Golden around the bases. Both Golden and Holt were knocked in by Wilcox, making the score 10-1.

Wilcox never crossed the plate, but had three RBI’s total. Golden was also credited with three RBI’s and scored three runs.

Williams pitched three innings with four strikeouts and only allowed one run. Golden pitched the other two innings and struck two batters out, allowed no runs and only one hit.

Coach Derrick Rodgers said he is proud of the CMS Eagles this year. Rodgers says their seven wins earned them the outright Jr. High Conference Championship.

The Eagles beat Camden Harmony Grove 10-5 and 7-5, Magnolia 10-3, and Drew Central 9-5 and 6-1.

Their only loss was late in the season to El Dorado 3-0, who they beat earlier in the season 5-3.
