Sterling Oliver Atkins Sr., 88, of Hamburg, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017 at The Woods of Monticello Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Atkins was a 1947 graduate of Hamburg High School. Mr. Atkins began working as an Electrician for the Crossett Company in 1949 and retired from the Georgia-Pacific Corporation in 1979. He was a member of the Hamburg First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jettie Mae Atkins; a son, Sterling “Bubba” Atkins Jr; a grandson, Neal Faulk; his parents, William Clark and Annie Lou Carpenter Atkins; two brothers, W.C. “Buddy” Atkins and James Roy “Jimmy” Atkins and three sisters, Delle Grantham, Inez Watkins and Mary Essie Bawcom.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Kelley and husband, James, of McGehee and J. Gail Faulk of Hamburg; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 3 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Hamburg First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg Comer officiating.
Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m., Thursday at the church.
Pallbearers will be James Kelley, Layton Kelley, Gavin Kelley, Drew Kelley, Tyce Gulledge and Stoney Fortenberry.
Honorary pallbearers will be the former Electricians of the Georgia-Pacific Corporation.
