Arkansas soldiers are returning home from deployment to Africa just in time for the holidays, including several soldiers from Ashley County.
Approximately 700 Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment of the 39th Infantry Brigade of the Arkansas National Guard are in the process of returning home after a nine-month deployment to the Horn of Africa. Soldiers started arriving back in the state Nov. 4.
Staff Sgt. Scott Jones with the Camden National Guard Armory said Monday that the soldiers are coming home in shifts. Jones did not disclose the details of the returns, but said they should all be home before the end of the week.
Troops associated with the Malvern, Camden, El Dorado, Hope, Mena and Warren Units deployed to Djibouti, Africa in early January to support operations, exercises and security cooperation programs under U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM).
Friends and family of the servicemen have confirmed that Crossett residents Kirby Faulk, Richard Williams and Jacob Dehart are among those who have safely returned.
