Charles Fred “Buck” Thompson, 86, of Crossett, died Monday, July 10, 2017, surrounded by his family, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Jonesboro, La. to his parents, Solomon, and Senrita Spurlock Thompson. For thirty-five years, Buck worked at Jr. Meeks Chevrolet as an auto mechanic until he eventually retired in 1988. He was a member of North Crossett First Baptist Church

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold Bernard Thompson; and two sisters, Annie Lucille Lum; and infant sister, Martha Jane Thompson.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Morine Thompson; one daughter, Martha Jane Murphy and husband Pete; one granddaughter, Whitney Lynn Murphy; and one brother, Bobby L. Thompson and wife Minnie, all of Crossett; along with a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 12 at Medders Funeral Home Chapel, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett, with Johnnie Bolin and the Rev. Jerry Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Martin, Ben Martin, Darrel Wise, J.W. Martin, Charles Martin, and Bill Lum.

Honorary pallbearers will be his Andy’s coffee group.

Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ashley County Relay for Life.
