Georgia Pacific plans to expand its tissue production capacity at the GP Crossett facility in the coming year.
GP-Crossett Spokeswoman Jennifer King said the company plans to install two additional “state of the art” lines producing Angel Soft tissue, with construction on the expansion possibly starting as early as September.
If all goes well, the new lines will begin production as soon as October 2018, she said.
While the $60 million investment isn’t likely to result in significant job creation on the plant floor, King said the construction represents an “obviously very long-term investment that speaks to the stability of the future of the mill in Crossett.”
King said future hiring in light of the new lines hasn’t been ruled out, though the current workforce at GP-Crossett, approximately 1,100, is expected to be able to accommodate the needs for the additional production.
“That is subject to change once we get up and running,” she said.
