The Babe Ruth League’s Memorial Weekend Tournament semifinals featured the Arsenal and the Sliderz.
With the start of play, the Arsenal’s centerfielder, Brooks, struck out and was followed by McCloy, who singled to put a runner on base. Holland also hit a single, and Atchison singled to load the bases. White struck out, which Stell followed with a ground out to first base to end the top of the first inning.
The Sliderz’s Plummer opened their offensive effort with a double. Brown followed with a double to bring Plummer in for the games’ first run. Hale had a single to knock Brown in. Sivils grounded out to the shortstop for the Sliderz first out. Vail had a fly out to right field, and Wolfe grounded out to the second baseman to close the inning.
At the top of the second, the Arsenal’s Hicks had a strike out. Buford doubled for the Arsenal’s first hit and then moved to third base on a ground out to second base by Culp. Morgan was able to reach base and score on a hit by Brooks. Holland grounded out, but the Arsenal had a four-run lead.
