Virginia Cherrill McElroy age 84 died on Sunday, May 14, 2017. Virginia was born on November 2, 1932, to George (Preacher) and Agnes Hagood and was a lifelong resident of Crossett. Her education began at Murphy Elementary School and continued to Crossett High School where she graduated in 1949 at the age of 16. Virginia worked as a secretary at Burr’s Department Store, Chase Bag Company, and then Georgia-Pacific where she worked until her retirement in 1994. She was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church and a former member of the Crossett/Hamburg Camp of the Gideon’s international auxiliary. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Jamie McElroy who she married on February 26, 1954, her parents, and a son Clyde Randall McElroy.
She is survived by her children, Rusty McElroy (Sandy) of Ashdown, AR, and Susanne Ballard (Greg) of Crossett; her sister, Mary (Mae) McDaniel of Crossett; four grandchildren, Brittany and Hannah McElroy of Ashdown, Josh and Jeremy Ballard of Crossett.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Magnolia Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Griffith officiating. Interment followed at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, AR. (
Visitation was Tuesday, May 16, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Magnolia Baptist Church.
Pallbearers was Rusty McElroy, Greg Ballard, Josh Ballard, Jeremy Ballard, Steve McDaniel, and Robin McElroy.
