The Crossett Lady Eagles overcame Malvern’s two-run lead to beat the Lady Leopards in the regional 4A softball Tournament held in Monticello on Friday.
The Lady Eagles got off to a slow start but came through when it counted.
In the first inning, Hallie Cameron grounded out to the Leopard’s first baseman. Kael Franklin struck out for the Lady Eagles second out. Kaylie Pullin opened up the hit column with a single, but was thrown out at second base trying to steal.
The Malvern Lady Leopards opened the bottom of the first with the catcher flying out to Franklin. Alaina Rice struck out the Leopard’s shortstop. The pitcher reached base working a walk. The first baseman had a fly out to right field for the Leopards’ last out.
At the top of the second, Jayden Thurman started things off with a base hit. Ashley Schlesier struck out for the Lady Eagles first out, and then Katie Stone hit a ground ball and Thurman was forced out at second. Rice struck out for the Lady Eagles third out.
The Lady Leopards third baseman had a fly out Sunni Lee. The second baseman grounded out to Pullin for their second out, and while the center fielder made it to third base on an error by the Lady Eagles, the right fielder struck out to end the inning for the Lady Leopards.
In the top of the third, Crossett was three up, three down — Lee and Brooke Courson struck out and Cameron had a pop out to the Lady Leopards first baseman. But then again, the Lady Leopards also went zero-for-three in terms of successful batting in the third inning.
