Donald Joe Smith, 71, of Crossett died Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Ashley County Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Crossett and a retiree of Georgia Pacific Paper Mill. He was a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church, where he served in the deacon ministry and trustee ministry.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mary Ann Smith; a son, Cedric Smith; his parents, Leon and Lillie Mae Collins-Smith; and a sister, Ruth Cappin.
Survivors include three sons, Dallas Leon Smith and spouse Dona of Pine Bluff, Donald Smith Jr. and spouse Cindy of Willard, Ohio, and Kuyunnie Smith and spouse Kris of Dallas; two daughters, Katrinia Smith Williams and DaShonda Smith-Johnson, both of Crossett; five brothers, Reverend Melvin Smith and spouse Doris of Crossett, Darror Smith and spouse Gwin of Lake Village, Lawrence Smith of Malvern, Dennis Smith and spouse Lisa of Pine Bluff, and Mark Smith of Crossett; three sisters, Hester Handley , Cynthia Hollins and spouse Gary and Diane Jackson and spouse Andra, all of Crossett; nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and a number of nephews, nieces, other family and friends.
Funeral Services were 11 a.m. April 18 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Witherspoon officiating.
Active pallbearers were Billy Taylor, Donald Foster, Daryle Daniels, Michael White, Lumos Blakely, Charlie Jefferson, Ken Neal and Terry Morgan.
Honorary pallbearers were the deacons and trustees of Pleasant Green Baptist Church.
Burial followed in Westview Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home in Hamburg.
