The Hamburg School Board focused on personnel moves including administration and athletics at its Monday night meeting.
The district’s school board came out of an executive session and just as board members sat down, Superintendent Max Dyson proposed that Cecil Ray Cossey be approved as the district’s new head football coach for Hamburg High School.
Cossey is a native of Wilmot and played his high school football at Hamburg High School – he graduated in 1998 - before attending the University of Arkansas and eventually getting into coaching. He was an assistant coach at Northwood High School in Louisiana when he was hired as Hamburg High’s new head coach.
Before Northwood, Cossey coached at Parkway High School in Bossier City, La., in the Hot Springs school district and at South Garland HS in Texas.
Cossey has been an offensive assistant coach including several seasons as an offensive coordinator throughout a coaching career that dates back to 2003.
Cossey replaces Mike Cox. Cox turned a losing program at Hamburg into a winning and playoff program. He led the Lions to a 9-3 season in 2014 and went undefeated in three years in games versus Crossett and Monticello.
Cox left Hamburg to move to Class 5A power Camden-Fairview in May.
